Built for this side of town
Race Swami's swimming and enrichment program serves families from Rose Park, Glendale and the neighbouring westside communities, and it makes competitive swimming reachable for all of them. Any child is welcome regardless of ability to pay, and the team supplies the gear they need.
We are the only Salt Lake City based USA Swimming program dedicated to meeting the needs of kids in underserved communities, and we pair the swimming with free tutoring and real educational opportunity.
Swimming
Six training groups from pre-competitive through our senior and national level squad, across three westside pools.
Enrichment
One-on-one tutoring, campus visits, a summer book club and a speaker series that has brought in an NFL quarterback and an Everest summiteer.
Swim School
Learn-to-swim for the westside in classes of five or fewer, plus adult lessons and our long-running Neighborhood House partnership.
Gold caps, state shirts and Día de los Muertos
Race Swami has always been drawn to symbolic gestures. The fleur-de-lis on the cap, the Oaxacan-inspired shirt our head coach designs for every state meet, the metallic gold caps that come out only for finals, and the Día de los Muertos Classic we host every October. They are the reason a Swami feels like a Swami.
Nobody has ever been turned away
Most of our families receive financial assistance for membership dues, and no child has ever been turned away from a Race Swami clinic or practice over money. That is possible because individuals, foundations and local businesses have backed this program since 2011.
In their words
“I'm proud to be from Rose Park and I'm proud of the fact that I swim for a program that represents the great community we live in.”
Junior Swami swimmer, age 11
“Race Swami has changed my life. Without it, I wouldn't be swimming because my parents can't afford it. I want to thank Race Swami for letting me swim. It has been the best thing ever.”
Junior Swami swimmer, age 12
“My life would be so empty and boring without Race Swami. I'd probably just play video games all the time.”
